My Favorite Romance Movies

I’m not ashamed to admit that out of all the movies in the world, romantic ones (especially rom-coms) are my favorite. If there’s one out there that I haven’t seen, I will watch it. I do, on the other hand, realize that other people have very different views on what their favorite romantic movies are so don’t judge me too hard on these.

I decided to compile my own list of favorites that never get old but if I’ve missed any, comment below with your favorites!

Look out for the link at the end of the post for your chance to win a copy of Under The Tuscan Sun 🙂 There will be two lucky winners!

Also, a little side note, I couldn’t bring myself to rank them because I love them all equally in their own way… kind of like the children I don’t have yet, so they’re in alphabetical order for your viewing pleasure.

(500) Days of Summer

I think this is one movie you either love or you hate. I let a coworker borrow it once and he said he had a hard time finishing it because it frustrated him so much but I love it. I don’t know what it is but this, to me, is a pretty accurate representation of what happens in dating these days. It’s incredibly relatable.

“People should be able to say how they feel – how they really feel – not, you know, some words that some strangers put in their mouths.”

This movie is magical. I can’t believe I went so long without seeing it. It’s whimsical but beautiful all at the same time. I have never wanted to speak French so much in my life! (This includes the 3 years I spent in high school taking French). Absolutely brilliant.

“A woman without love wilts like a flower without sun.”

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

This is Audrey at her finest. This one is undoubtedly one of the best movies ever made. And all the clothes she wears in this movie… I still want to wear all of it. She is flawless! I love this one because she acts so confident but she’s really insecure; another relatable movie.

“You mustn’t give your heart to a wild thing.”

Dear John

I really do love this one. I can see why some people don’t like it and it’s mostly because of the ending but the ending is actually why I like it. I read this book in high school and I think they’re different enough that I like them both separately. If I’m in a mood, I will cry during this movie, guaranteed.

“Two weeks together. That’s all it took. Two weeks for me to fall in love with you.”

Dirty Dancing

You better believe this Baby is on here (get it?). All any girl wants in this life is a family, a nice house, a nice car, and a husband who can lift her in the air like Patrick Swayze. That’s IT.

“Nobody puts Baby in the corner!”

Just Go With It

Don’t beat me up too much over this one but it’s one of my favorite movies ever. I think it’s hilarious but also so darling how they end up realizing they really do love each other. Especially that scene when they’re outside her hotel room flirting and almost about to kiss? I die every time. Plus I love Jennifer Aniston, she’s my forever girl crush.

“Were you telling the truth when you said you might be in love with me?”

Life is Beautiful

I literally have to grab a box of tissues & mentally prepare myself before I watch this. The last time I watched it, I was by myself and I kept crying for 10 minutes after it was over because it’s so amazingly beautiful and sad all at the same time. It’s set in WWII so be prepared to get angry at that whole situation all over again. The whole movie is in Italian which is a language I’ve been dying to master.

“This is a simple story… but not an easy one to tell.”

My Best Friend’s Wedding

I remember watching this after I had broken up with my very first boyfriend in junior high & he had started dating someone else. It felt so accurate to me. Obviously, based on that, you can tell I’ve been very dramatic since birth. If you’ve ever wanted someone back that you once had, this is the movie for you.

Here’s a plus: Dermot Mulroney is a babe forever and for always.

MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING, Dermot Mulroney, Julia Roberts, 1997urtesy Everett

“I really have this gigantic favor to ask of you. Choose me. Marry me. Let me make you happy. Oh… That sounds like three favors, doesn’t it?”

Never Been Kissed

All I have to say about this one is that if I had had a teacher like Mr. Coulson in high school, I might have been more inclined to get a 4.0… and not for educational reasons. You’re not so grossy anymore, Josie!

“Sorry I’m late. It took me forever to get here.”

The Notebook

I know you are all probably sick and tired of seeing this one pop up on everyone’s lists but I absolutely adore it. He built her a HOUSE and wrote to her every day for a YEAR.

“The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds.”

P.S. I Love You

I wish Gerard Butler would write me letters. This movie always gets me at the end, which is surprising considering I’m not a big Hilary Swank fan. But this is a good one.

“Every morning, I still wake up and the first thing I want to do is to see your face.”

Return to Me

My dad is not real big on romantic movies, just like almost every guy, but this is one of his favorites. I have to say, he picked a good one. It’s a little different than the usual but I guess not really.

“When she met you, her heart beat truly for the first time. Perhaps it was the meant to be with you always.”

Roman Holiday

I’m already an Audrey Hepburn fan but her chemistry with Gregory Peck? HELLO. Movies like this make me want to travel back in time and meet people this sophisticated. And I wouldn’t mind hanging out with Mr. Peck here either.

“I have to leave you now. I’m going to that corner there and turn. You must stay in the car and drive away. Promise not to watch me go beyond the corner. Just drive away and leave me as I leave you.”

Sleepless in Seattle

I remember watching this multiple times when I was younger and never really paying attention to it. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I found it on Netflix bored at work on a Saturday and thought I may as well watch it. It’s hands down one of my favorite movies.

“Well, it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together… and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home…”

I think this one is officially on every guy’s list for Worst Movie Ever because any time I bring it up, they all roll their eyes. I honestly forget that this movie is 3 hours long because it’s SO good. That’s a lot coming from me considering my attention span has shortened over the years.

“Winning that ticket, Rose, was the best thing that ever happened to me… It brought me to you.”

The Vow

A lot of people didn’t like this one but it was adapted from a real story so I’m all for it. I will have you know that if I woke up from a coma and Channing Tatum was sitting next to me telling me he was my husband, I wouldn’t question it one bit.

“I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love & to always know, in the deepest part of my soul, that no matter what challenges might carry us apart, we will always find our way back to each other.”

Under The Tuscan Sun

If you haven’t seen this movie, you should. It’s such a sweet and cute movie! Diane Lane is amazing in it and Kate Walsh & Sandra Oh from Grey’s Anatomy are in it. I had no idea until I re-watched it! Anyway, be prepared to want to learn Italian.

“Do you know the most surprising thing about divorce? It doesn’t actually kill you. Like a bullet to the heart or a head-on car wreck. It should.”

A Walk to Remember

There he goes again, that Nicholas Sparks, ripping his way into my heart. I am a sucker for these. I also have a hard time with Mandy Moore but this one is good.

“Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and it is not resentful.”

When Harry Met Sally

It took me a while to watch this one but it was totally worth the wait. They just keep running into each other!! When it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be!

“You see? That is just like you, Harry. You say things like that and you make it impossible for me to hate you.”
