Brown Hair, Basketball, Booties, & Bench Presses

We have been a little MIA for a while but it’s been so busy. I feel like all the days have just blurred together. I hate when time goes by that fast BUT with how freezing it has been here in Utah lately, I’m okay with time going by fast right now.

One thing I totally forgot to share with you guys is that I went back to my dark brown hair! Being half blonde is super hard to maintain and my hair had been like that for so long that I felt like I needed a change so I’m back to my roots!

A little over a week ago, Cody and I went with our friends Bitters & Tavia to a Jazz game against the Lakers (boo) and it was such a fun game to be at! We won so that was great and I was happy we didn’t lose to them because there were tons of Lakers fans there.

I’m proud to report that I’ve been sticking to my new year’s resolutions so far and I’ve been going to the gym with my trainer! It’s been so fun but SUPER hard. I’m sore every day of my life and I walk around like an 80-year-old woman. I’m getting a lot better at eating somewhat healthier and I feel like that’s been helping out a ton. One thing I’m super proud of is all the bench pressing and deadlifting I’ve been doing! I can’t wait to get better at it because it sure feels good.

You guys know how much I love Steve Madden shoes and I found these GORGE booties a couple months ago on their Instagram post. I waited very, very patiently and then boom! They went on sale. It was a match made in heaven.

Look at the cute studs!

They’re the cutest. They’re nice & tall too so I get the extra height I deserve 😉 you can get these babies at Steve Madden by clicking here. They have them in this taupe color, grey, & black.

Happy Wednesday!

My New Year’s Resolutions

Happy Tuesday, friends! Are you resolution makers? Because I am not. And I’ve even tried to trick myself into resolutions by saying to myself, “You don’t even have to tell anybody!” but I’m here to tell you, that didn’t work either.

However, there are a lot of things I want to do this year and I’m feeling extra motivated to post it here so that I will feel somewhat responsible to update you guys on the progress. I also decided that it would be easier to make general resolutions instead of ones with an actual amount or date to hit. Then I won’t feel as discouraged when I’m nowhere near meeting that goal.

Okay so here goes nothing!

Here’s another shameless plug about Rifle Paper Co. – I went to Anthropologie last week and bought myself a new planner so I’m ready for the year!

Eat Healthier

You all know I love fries with a passion for fashion but I’m trying to ease out of that obsession for a bit. I’m sure I’ll squeeze it in there somewhere when I can but word on the street is that I need to be eating way more protein (wah wah). I’ve been eating so much more protein than I ever have dating Cody because we eat steak or prime rib quite a bit. It’s really not a bad problem to have. However, I need more so I’ll be letting you know about ways to incorporate more protein into your diet when I figure it all out.

Go to the Gym More Often

I did not set a quantity for this because I knew I would see the amount and be like, F that. But I did meet with a personal trainer yesterday at the gym and signed up to train with her twice a week. I’m really excited because I’m less likely to cancel or decide I don’t want to go when there’s an actual appointment with someone I don’t know. I did a FIT session with her yesterday to see where I was at and it kicked my butt. By the end, I was fighting back nausea and pleading with myself not to throw up. I even excused myself to sit outside in 30-degree weather so my body would calm down lol. Anyway, once the nausea subsided, I walked back inside and said, “Sign me up”. I’ll keep you updated.

Read More Books

I love to read. I really do! When I was younger, I would read a ton of books all the time. It wasn’t until I got into junior high and high school where I was forced to read books for classes that I really stopped reading regularly. I still read books but I hate being forced to do anything tbh. Now that I’m starting my last semester of college ever, I decided this goal needed to make its way back into my life.

This is my lineup for this year so far:

Big Little Lies – Liane Moriarty
Crazy Rich Asians – Kevin Kwan
China Rich Girlfriend – Kevin Kwan
Rich People Problems – Kevin Kwan
Mindhunter – John Douglas & Mark Olshaker
The Handmaid’s Tale – Margaret Atwood
The Graveyard Book – Neil Gaiman

I’m really very excited because all these books sound amazing! What books are you guys reading right now?

Write More Calligraphy

I think I mentioned this in my Christmas recap but my sister got me a brush calligraphy class & kit from Melissa Esplin at Calligraphy.org. I’m stoked to start it because I’ve really wanted to sit down and just do it but I keep making excuses, especially when I see other people’s amazing calligraphy skills! I’ll try to share more things as I keep practicing.

Take More Pictures

I have a cute Polaroid camera that I never use because I keep telling myself I’ll take it on special events and I forget it EVERY SINGLE TIME. So my goal is to start bringing it along with me and just take pictures. Not just with that but I need to take more pictures with my phone. I know everyone says that you need to live in the moment and take mental pictures and I agree 100% but I also look back through my phone and realize I have nothing to share or for me to look at later. Hopefully this will help me share more of my experiences with you guys!

Are you making a resolution? Do you have suggestions for anything I mentioned above? I’d love to hear from you!
Wish me luck!
xoxo

Makeup Monday

Hey there, lovelies! Happy Monday! I’ve got a few new makeup items I’ve been using that I love and I wanted to tell you all about them.

Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer

I’m kind of really obsessed with this primer. I bought the smaller tube to try it but I think I’ve just found the greatest thing ever. The pores in my t-zone and chin are HUGE (like I could store stuff in there) so by the end of the day, my makeup looks horrid around that area. This has been amazing at smoothing that zone over and making my pores look smaller. It also gives you a matte finish so if that’s what you’re looking for and you have trouble with large pores, I would definitely give this a try. You can get it from Sephora here.

Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Setting Spray

Not only do I have large pores but I have an oily face, especially around my t-zone. I’m surprised my makeup doesn’t slide down my face and onto my keyboard. I had been using Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray and it definitely was better at keeping my makeup on than when I don’t use a spray but I felt that it still wasn’t doing the trick.

I decided to try this one instead since it’s directed more towards oily faces and bingo. It’s perfect. I can feel that the formula is different just in the way it sets on my face. I felt like their All Nighter spray was a little sticky in a way, at least on me, but this one is light and amazing. By the end of the workday, my makeup still looks put together and not splotchy because some areas have come off. You can get it from Sephora here.

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Extreme!

I am a sucker for anything that will make my lashes look even longer and more voluminous. When I was at Ulta the other day, I saw this little kit and decided to try it. I have to say, it’s not bad at all. It separates my lashes out really well and there are no clumps! You use the gold tube to prime your lashes, the white tube to add lash extension fibers, and then you seal it all with the gold tube again. The white tube is kinda of fun because it’s like you’re swiping on cotton or little fluffballs. Anyway, I really enjoy this one. I especially like to use it without eyeliner because it gives you a great, semi-natural looking lash with no clumps so you look like you have a natural set of bomb eyelashes. You can get this kit from Ulta here.

CoverGirl Easy Breezy Brow Eyebrow Mascara

I’ve been using this for a while now and I realized that when I found out they changed their tube design haha. This stuff is cheap and works amazingly at keeping my eyebrow hairs from moving. The color I use is Rich Brown and matches my Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse so my brows always look great. You can get it at your nearest drugstore or from Ulta by clicking here.

Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation

I’m always looking for a new foundation and new things to try on my face so when one of my friends mentioned this one, I had to get it. First of all, it really does smell like peaches. Well, maybe not exactly, but it does smell fruitier than other foundations! It goes on super smooth and I feel like it does a good job at covering up imperfections. I was pleasantly surprised that it stayed on really well and didn’t leave me with an orange face (dang you, oxidation!) which is always a plus! It helps tremendously for those with oily faces like me AND doesn’t transfer very easily so if you’re also like me and realize you have makeup smudges on all your clothes in random spots, get this lil baby. You can find it at Sephora here. Thanks for the suggestion, Ashley! <3

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation

Last week, I was moseying along inside of Ulta with some of my coworkers while we were waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant and I realized they sell MAC now! I clearly hadn’t been to Ulta for a while. I’ve always wanted to try their makeup because I love their lipsticks and lip primer but it was never super readily available to me or I would just forget about it. Anyway, I sat down on the chair and had one of the girls match me and I fell in love. This color is probably the closest match to my skin that I have ever found in my whole life. I didn’t even think it was possible for me. It stays on all day and plays well with my primer and setting spray that I mentioned above. It doesn’t feel heavy and if I touch my face, it doesn’t transfer easily either. Get it from Ulta here.

Sephora’s Birthday Gift

This year, the birthday gifts from Sephora are pretty freaking cool. The first one is a lip & eye mini kit from Kat Von D with her Tattoo Liner, setting powder, and little lipsticks. The second one is a moisturizer and cleanser set from Drunk Elephant. This is the one I got. The girl that worked at Sephora told me that it’s the best set she’s ever had. They’re known to help minimize pores and heal your skin so that’s what I’m about to do. I haven’t used it just yet so stay tuned for a review on this!

What are your new makeup faves?? Please share! I love finding new and awesome products.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Michelle

Hi, S+S family! Yesterday was my 26th time around the sun and I was GOING to share 26 things about me but then my sister told me she wouldn’t read it and I also couldn’t think of 26 things about me so I’m sharing 10 instead. Lucky day!

  1. I was born in Venezuela. I haven’t been back since (especially due to all the political unrest) and sadly, don’t remember any of it. The majority of my mom’s side of the family is there and she is one of 8 so there are lots and lots of family members I have yet to meet! Maybe one day.
  2. I love music and playing musical instruments. Music has always been so soothing and mood-enhancing for me. When I was little, my sister and I took piano lessons but would never practice (shame on us) so my parents eventually stopped taking us. As I got older, I took on the guitar since I was mesmerized by my dad playing. I love playing the guitar but definitely need to play more often! I recently started wanting to learn to play the ukulele so that might be a project for this year.
  3. I’m obsessed with true crime, ghost stories, and murder mysteries. Most of you know this by now but in case you just joined us, now you know! I’ve loved it since I was little. I’m intrigued by the psychological part of what drives people to do things so to me, it’s insanely interesting. Right now, I am in love with the My Favorite Murder podcast, specifically their minisodes because I love all the cool stories people send in (and the women hosting it are freaking hilarious and I want to be their best friend). I’m also obsessed with the Cold podcast about Susan Powell! If you want some ideas on what to watch or listen to, check out my post from earlier last year on true crime!
  4. I love sports but specifically basketball. I’m a big Utah Jazz fan and love going to games and watching them on TV. Steph gets some pretty amazing hookups to the games and she’s kind enough to take me sometimes so thanks to her, I’ve had some pretty legit experiences. Cody & I love watching the games or going so I get all the basketball I need. I also love the University of Utah football team and will forever be a Utes fan. (Boo BYU)
  5. Chinese food is my most favorite food in the world. It’s something I could eat every single day if my body could take all the MSG. In fact, I’m craving it as I write this. I like Panda Express too but I don’t really consider that Chinese food. I mention this because a few years ago, I went on a date with this kid who asked me what I wanted to eat. I, of course, said Chinese (as I would do on every date, including my first date with Cody) and instead of taking me to any one of the Chinese restaurants available, took me to Panda Express.
  6. I hate not having my nails painted. If you ever see me without my nails painted, there is a 99% chance there’s a bottle of nail polish in my purse ready to go.
  7. I cannot (and will not) live without french fries. I can give up anything else you ask me to; chips, candy, chocolate, ice cream, etc. But I can never say goodbye to fries.
  8. My favorite shoe designer is Steve Madden. I usually never have a lot of brand repeats when it comes to shoes because I’ll buy whatever is cute but I have the most from Steve Madden.
  9. When I was younger, I hated gold with a passion. I thought that I would look too much like a typical latina if I wore gold (WTF Michelle!). Now, I’m obsessed. I will not wear jewelry that isn’t gold. AND just in case you were wondering, I love being latina so no worries, people. I grew up!
  10. I don’t like watching the news. One of the things that I tried to do once I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder was avoiding watching things that stressed me out. I follow local news outlets on Facebook and Twitter instead so that I don’t have to read things I don’t want to read. I still keep up on what’s going on in the world but it definitely limits my exposure and it’s great, people.

I’m still celebrating my birthday this weekend so I’ll share some highlights on Monday!
xoxo

Christmas Recap

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone! I can’t believe this year is over. I feel like every year goes by faster and faster. I hope you all had the best time over the holidays, however you celebrate. 🙂 I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite parts about this Christmas!

We had a gingerbread house contest with my boyfriend’s family and it was so much fun. Cody and I decided to come up with our own idea beforehand instead of just using the kits. We chose to do a Christmas barn so the night before, Cody made the dough and I went over early the next day so we could start baking. I thought I would be more helpful in this area but Cody ended up being better at rolling and cutting the dough so I stuck to oven duty. After I dyed the walls of the barn red, we put all the pieces on cookie sheets, covered them with saran wrap, and set off to his parents’ house.

It was pretty funny because his mom had set up kits at everyone’s station and in comes Cody with premade gingerbread ready to assemble. Needless to say, we won AND we set the bar pretty high so now I don’t know what we are going to have to think of for next year.

I forgot to take a picture after we had cleaned up our station but this is just a glimpse of what it looked like. I made the sheep out of pretzels and marshmallows and the trees from sugar cones and green frosting. It was hard but worth it in the end! From what I hear, a trophy is coming our way 🙂 If you want to take this design on next year for your contest, you can find the instructions here.

My friends and I like to do a Secret Santa exchange every year and it’s fun because you never know who you’re going to get. This year, I got my friend Levi and he had a lot of interesting things on his list. In the end, I got him throwing axes and a hammock. I think my Amazon account is probably confused why all of a sudden I’m into axes but oh well. My friend Tino was my Secret Santa and he gave me an Amazon Echo Dot. I set it up this weekend and it’s so fun. What are your tips & tricks on what to do with Alexa?

I cannot wrap to save my life (and I can’t rap either, but that’s a different story). This year, I wrapped one present and was super proud of myself and then I took on a weird-shaped box and when I eventually ripped the paper, I gave up and finished watching 8 Mile. (Yes, I was watching Eminem rap while I tried to wrap for inspiration.) My sister helped me finish and I got to write their names on the boxes. We both love choosing a wrapping paper color scheme and this was mine:

Yes, that is a small gingerbread man.

For my Christmas present, Cody spoiled me big time and got me the nicest record player ever. Not only that but he bought me really nice speakers to go with it. My records sound amazing! I ran out to Target the next day to buy a table for it because I wanted to display it. I’ve spent a few days listening to my records now and made a huge list of ones I need to get next. I need to step up my gift-giving game now!

If you look in the mirror, you can tell I’m listening to Ace of Base’s The Sign. Classic.

I got a lot of goodies for Christmas but a couple things I was super excited for was the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy by Kevin Kwan. I loved the movie so much so I’m excited to read them! My sister also got me a calligraphy set and voucher for an online class! She is my biggest supporter to keep writing so I’m excited to start that and see my handwriting improve.

How did you celebrate the holidays?
xoxo

Disneyland

Last year, some of my girlfriends and I decided to start an annual girls’ trip to Disneyland and we had a great time. We got to go during the Christmas season and it was magical. This year, we tried to go in October but mine and my sister’s work schedule didn’t allow for that so we went back during Christmas again.

We had a lot of fun eating our way through both parks. The churros! The popcorn! The cheese popcorn! The beignets! The corndogs! The corn on the cobs! The fries! I mean, thank goodness you have to walk everywhere because otherwise, they would have had to roll us out of the park.

My sister and I using the cute Snapchat filters at Disney’s California Adventure

This year was cool because I finally got to ride Toy Story’s Midway Mania. I literally have never done it because whenever I go, the Fast Passes are all gone and the wait is 14050294 hours. It was a lot of fun, except for losing to my sister.

They were also selling the super cute long-sleeved shirts with ‘Disneyland’ written across the back. I think these ones were the cutest I’ve seen so far so I had to buy one in my favorite color (or non-color, if you’re one of those), black.

We spent the first day at California Adventure and it was sunny and gorgeous. The second day, we spent it at Disneyland and it was cloudy and a little chilly so I’m glad I brought my jacket because I didn’t take it off once. You’d think I wouldn’t be a baby about the cold since we live in Utah but nope, still always freezing.

Cute picture on the boardwalk at Pixar Pier in California Adventure. I loved Coco so much!!

We all agreed that California Adventure is the perfect place to start because it really doesn’t have as many things as Disneyland does so you can get to all the things you want to and still have time to do other things at night. Your feet aren’t also ready to shrivel up and fall off when you do California Adventure first. Another great thing we did is get the Max Passes instead of just regular Fast Pass. This means you don’t even have to walk to the Fast Pass Distribution for your favorite ride, you can just get it on the app. AND any pictures from rides are free to download with the purchase of a Max Pass. Bingo bango.

We also left both days to go back to the hotel and take naps. This was amazing because we always felt super rejuvenated afterwards! I am not a fan of staying at the park all day long because I get super tired so this was awesome. I’d say we took naps because my friend Amanda is 6 months pregnant and she needed to rest but I’d be lying because she was killing it. I hope I’m as gung-ho to walk around Disneyland when I’m 6 months pregnant without complaining. I’m pretty sure I was the weakest link on the entire trip.

Left to right: Amanda, Jocelyn, Annette, and I

While at Disneyland, we thought it would be nice to ride Peter Pan’s Flight because Annette and I hadn’t ridden it since we first came to Disneyland when I was in kindergarten and Amanda and Jocelyn had never ridden it. However, that day was a nightmare because it was so incredibly packed with people! We found out that it was a day that wasn’t blacked out for annual pass holders so it felt like the entire state of California was there. This made the wait times for Peter Pan’s flight a consistent 80+ minutes.

We decided to be sneaky and wait until the fireworks ended at night to hurry and get in line for the ride once they opened the area again. Apparently, everyone had that idea because it felt like Black Friday shopping. I’m pretty sure parents have killed to get their children on that ride and will continue to do so. It was a mad rush to get back in line for that ride but alas, we got in line because we knew it would still be the shortest wait we’d ever get for it. 30 long minutes later, it’s finally our turn and in THE BLINK OF AN EYE, we’re being let off the ride because it’s over.

Yes, Disneyland is cute and all but the things people are willing to wait for is insane. We all agreed that was not worth the wait and we laughed at the parents who waited 2 hours to get their kiddos on that ride. Anyway, it was a lot of fun but I think I need a vacation from that vacation.

xoxo

Weekend Highlights

I had a super fun weekend with new friends and old friends. On Saturday, we had a dinner & movie night with my friends. It took us probably 35 minutes to pick something to watch because we’re all so stubborn that any time someone suggested something, someone else would hate it. I can never stop laughing with these guys.

One of my favorite things about Christmas in Utah is when the lights at Temple Square turn on after Thanksgiving. It always feels like the official start of Christmas. I love looking at them but I will admit, I’m a baby when it comes to the cold so I don’t go every year.

This year was fun because Cody’s mission companion from Brazil and his wife, Matt and Lorena, came to visit and spent the weekend at his place. We took them to do a few of our favorite things including eating at Maxwell’s, doing an escape room, going to Gourmandise for dessert, getting fries (or frites) from Bruges, and going to Temple Square to see the lights.

Maxwell’s in Salt Lake is a great restaurant and bar that has some really good (and HUGE) pizzas!

We did an escape room at The Escape Key in Salt Lake and it was a lot of fun. This is my third time doing an escape room and I’ve escaped every single time. We made it out with about 12 or 13 minutes left. This one was a little hard because the whole room was dark the entire time and we only had flashlights and eventually, small black lights.

This is one of my favorite places in the entire world. My dad found this place when I was younger and we’ve all been obsessed ever since. I’ve had birthday dinners with friends here so it holds lots of good times and memories for me. We brought Matt and Lorena here because Lorena was really craving some dessert and this is the first place I think of when I want dessert.

My favorite treats are the chocolate mousse slice, the chocolate strawberry tartelettes, and the raspberry mango tartelettes. There is lots of good stuff here to choose from!

Lorena was also craving fries (a girl after my own heart) so we took them to Bruges and got a huge serving of fries and sauces. It was delicious!!

Lorena and Matt invited Cody and I to the Christmas Devotional at the Conference Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints so we walked through Temple Square on our way to the Conference Center and took some pictures!

I had a blast getting to know these Brazilians living in New Zealand (still insanely jealous about this)! I love making new friends 🙂

Snacks I Always Have Stashed

I don’t know about you guys but I’m big on snacking. I always keep snacks in my drawers at work and, of course, in the pantry at home. Because I tend to be more snacky, I need to make sure that it’s not always junk food… otherwise, I would be in big trouble. I’m sharing my faves with you today!

Sparkling ICE Drinks

Image result for sparkling ice lemonade

My friend Ally got me hooked on these when she was getting me to eat healthier. I don’t drink soda and I typically prefer water over everything but whenever I’m craving a different flavor, I choose these. They are so delicious and come in a variety of flavors. I love them with some ice and it usually accompanies meals very well. The sparkling water gives you the carbonation you’re probably missing from your soda but you don’t have to feel guilty about these. The Classic Lemonade flavor is my favorite but I’ve recently gotten into Strawberry Watermelon and Peach Nectarine. I drink water at work but I’ll keep a couple of these in my drawers in case I’m craving something else.

Quaker Popped Rice Crisps

Image result for quaker popped rice crisps

I am obsessed with these. I prefer these over chips any day but you definitely have to like the taste of rice cakes. These ones are dusted with cheddar cheese so it’s a win for me but they have other flavors. I can’t claim they’re overly healthy but they’re definitely better than potato chips. I’m big on snacking on crunchy foods so this helps.

Rold Gold Pretzels

Image result for rold gold pretzels

Pretzels are a must. A bag of these will last me a while because I can get full on just a few. These are perfect for those days you’re feeling snacky but don’t want to down 8 bags of chips. Another great version of their pretzels are their Cheddar Tiny Twists. MMM.

Pop Secret 94% Fat-Free Butter

Image result for pop secret 94 fat free

A lot of people wonder why I won’t just go for the movie theater butter but tbh, the extra butter on microwave popcorn (and sadly, the butter on movie theater popcorn) makes me sick due to an unfortunate experience I had as a child. Anyway, my stomach is too sensitive to those oils so this is the next best thing! I feel like this popcorn still has enough of the butter flavor to keep me happy and content. Popcorn is a big go-to for me when I need a quick sad that I don’t want to feel bad about. I always keep boxes of this at home and at work (and even at Cody’s).

Wonderful Pistachios

Image result for wonderful pistachios

Nuts are a great thing to snack on too because they will make you feel full in a healthier way. Pistachios have the added benefit of giving you something to do (e.g., cracking open the shell) while you munch on them so it keeps my hands busy. I like to snack on these if I’m watching TV or if I’m a little anxious to give myself something to focus on.

Yoplait Go-Gurt

Image result for go gurt

Yes, I’m 25 and yes, I’m still eating Go-Gurt 🙂 I love these because if I’m in a hurry (AKA I woke up late for work yet again), I grab one of these and eat it on the way to work. Maybe I will switch to the adult versions of Go-Gurts in the future but where’s the fun in that?

Fruit

Image result for fruit

I love fruit so much. I could always snack on it. My favorites are raspberries, strawberries, green grapes, green apples, clementines or Cuties, watermelon, and mangoes. Of course, the last two require some preparation but it’s all wonderfully delicious and gives you that sugar kick you need without processed sugar.

Lay’s Cheddar and Sour Cream Chips

Image result for lays sour cream and cheddar

These are obviously not healthy but I’ve been a little addicted to these lately! They are just so crispy and crunchy with the cheddar and sour cream flavor. I think about them all the time but I think that’s just a personal problem I have.

I tend to crave salty over sweet (s/o to me being the Salt of Salt + Sugar) so I’m sure you can tell that from the types of snacks I eat. I will say, it’s always nice to keep a little candy in my drawers too when that sugar craving kicks in but for the most part, you can win me over with any of the things I mentioned.

What do you like to snack on?

My Curology Experience

Hi, lovelies! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I got to spend time with all my loved ones and I enjoyed every second of it. Steph and I are back to work today and a little bummed out that the break is over!

Today, I wanted to talk about my skin journey over the past few months and it’s something that I’m a little nervous to share but I felt that it would help others on their way to finding clearer, healthier skin. I think I’ve mentioned before that I had been struggling with bad skin but in case I didn’t, I’ll explain.

I had great skin in high school and never wore foundation. It was fantastic. But after I graduated, I slowly started noticing that my face was getting worse and worse. My diet hadn’t really changed so it was super frustrating. Years and years went by and I tried everything I could get my hands on. I tried all different types of cleansers and serums and scrubs and washes. Nothing worked. I even tried Proactiv and that didn’t do a thing.

I was about to definitively start on Accutane since I had friends that had done it and it had worked for them, including Steph (her skin is fantastic). However, I found another company claiming to clear your skin with exactly the ingredients you need & nothing more.

A sucker for great advertising, I decided that I didn’t have anything to lose and I’d try one last time. So in June, I took pictures of my skin and submitted them to Curology. I also filled out their quiz and waited for a reply. They sent me a cream with a special formula just for me and instructions to put on a thin layer before bed.

These are the pictures I submitted to Curology:

Pretty bad huh? I almost can’t believe it!

5 months of using Curology has brought me to this point today:

I still have a little bit to go with discoloration (like the picture on the right) but I’m so happy with the results so far. I noticed a decline in bumps a few weeks into using the cream which was the nicest because I was super self-conscious wearing makeup and still having bumps everywhere. I couldn’t hide that.

I also make sure to only purchase foundation that is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores. I also bought these great little acne dots that you can put on a pimple at night and then in the morning, it’s pretty much gone. Putting these on helped me avoid picking at my face as well, which was a big factor in my skin healing. You can get these acne dots from Amazon here.

If you’re wanting to try something that really works and are willing to be patient, I recommend Curology for you! It’s very straight and simple and you can talk to your PA any time with questions, updates on your journey, or any formula changes. Plus, it has fewer steps than Proactiv so that was a big bonus for me. I didn’t have 18,000 steps to do every night. If you’re interested, check out Curology here.
