Christmas Recap

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone! I can’t believe this year is over. I feel like every year goes by faster and faster. I hope you all had the best time over the holidays, however you celebrate. 🙂 I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite parts about this Christmas!

We had a gingerbread house contest with my boyfriend’s family and it was so much fun. Cody and I decided to come up with our own idea beforehand instead of just using the kits. We chose to do a Christmas barn so the night before, Cody made the dough and I went over early the next day so we could start baking. I thought I would be more helpful in this area but Cody ended up being better at rolling and cutting the dough so I stuck to oven duty. After I dyed the walls of the barn red, we put all the pieces on cookie sheets, covered them with saran wrap, and set off to his parents’ house.

It was pretty funny because his mom had set up kits at everyone’s station and in comes Cody with premade gingerbread ready to assemble. Needless to say, we won AND we set the bar pretty high so now I don’t know what we are going to have to think of for next year.

I forgot to take a picture after we had cleaned up our station but this is just a glimpse of what it looked like. I made the sheep out of pretzels and marshmallows and the trees from sugar cones and green frosting. It was hard but worth it in the end! From what I hear, a trophy is coming our way 🙂 If you want to take this design on next year for your contest, you can find the instructions here.

My friends and I like to do a Secret Santa exchange every year and it’s fun because you never know who you’re going to get. This year, I got my friend Levi and he had a lot of interesting things on his list. In the end, I got him throwing axes and a hammock. I think my Amazon account is probably confused why all of a sudden I’m into axes but oh well. My friend Tino was my Secret Santa and he gave me an Amazon Echo Dot. I set it up this weekend and it’s so fun. What are your tips & tricks on what to do with Alexa?

I cannot wrap to save my life (and I can’t rap either, but that’s a different story). This year, I wrapped one present and was super proud of myself and then I took on a weird-shaped box and when I eventually ripped the paper, I gave up and finished watching 8 Mile. (Yes, I was watching Eminem rap while I tried to wrap for inspiration.) My sister helped me finish and I got to write their names on the boxes. We both love choosing a wrapping paper color scheme and this was mine:

Yes, that is a small gingerbread man.

For my Christmas present, Cody spoiled me big time and got me the nicest record player ever. Not only that but he bought me really nice speakers to go with it. My records sound amazing! I ran out to Target the next day to buy a table for it because I wanted to display it. I’ve spent a few days listening to my records now and made a huge list of ones I need to get next. I need to step up my gift-giving game now!

If you look in the mirror, you can tell I’m listening to Ace of Base’s The Sign. Classic.

I got a lot of goodies for Christmas but a couple things I was super excited for was the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy by Kevin Kwan. I loved the movie so much so I’m excited to read them! My sister also got me a calligraphy set and voucher for an online class! She is my biggest supporter to keep writing so I’m excited to start that and see my handwriting improve.

How did you celebrate the holidays?

My Curology Experience

Hi, lovelies! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I got to spend time with all my loved ones and I enjoyed every second of it. Steph and I are back to work today and a little bummed out that the break is over!

Today, I wanted to talk about my skin journey over the past few months and it’s something that I’m a little nervous to share but I felt that it would help others on their way to finding clearer, healthier skin. I think I’ve mentioned before that I had been struggling with bad skin but in case I didn’t, I’ll explain.

I had great skin in high school and never wore foundation. It was fantastic. But after I graduated, I slowly started noticing that my face was getting worse and worse. My diet hadn’t really changed so it was super frustrating. Years and years went by and I tried everything I could get my hands on. I tried all different types of cleansers and serums and scrubs and washes. Nothing worked. I even tried Proactiv and that didn’t do a thing.

I was about to definitively start on Accutane since I had friends that had done it and it had worked for them, including Steph (her skin is fantastic). However, I found another company claiming to clear your skin with exactly the ingredients you need & nothing more.

A sucker for great advertising, I decided that I didn’t have anything to lose and I’d try one last time. So in June, I took pictures of my skin and submitted them to Curology. I also filled out their quiz and waited for a reply. They sent me a cream with a special formula just for me and instructions to put on a thin layer before bed.

These are the pictures I submitted to Curology:

Pretty bad huh? I almost can’t believe it!

5 months of using Curology has brought me to this point today:

I still have a little bit to go with discoloration (like the picture on the right) but I’m so happy with the results so far. I noticed a decline in bumps a few weeks into using the cream which was the nicest because I was super self-conscious wearing makeup and still having bumps everywhere. I couldn’t hide that.

I also make sure to only purchase foundation that is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores. I also bought these great little acne dots that you can put on a pimple at night and then in the morning, it’s pretty much gone. Putting these on helped me avoid picking at my face as well, which was a big factor in my skin healing. You can get these acne dots from Amazon here.

If you’re wanting to try something that really works and are willing to be patient, I recommend Curology for you! It’s very straight and simple and you can talk to your PA any time with questions, updates on your journey, or any formula changes. Plus, it has fewer steps than Proactiv so that was a big bonus for me. I didn’t have 18,000 steps to do every night. If you’re interested, check out Curology here.

Not So Ugly Holiday Sweaters

Are you in need of an ugly sweater for a party or event? You might be like me where you buy a not so ugly sweater and it’s just more festive. Last year, I ended up just wearing mine out on weekends because I thought they were fun. I thought I would find some suggestions to show you.

I bought this sweater last year. I love Elf and for some reason, Adam and I would say that line to each other when we were saying bye.

I couldn’t find my exact sweater but I also have one that says, “Resting Grinch Face.” I often have RBF and I love the Grinch so I loved it. Here is a similar one.

This sweatshirt is a great price and if you like Mean Girls, then you will like this.

The next options aren’t things you would probably wear to an ugly sweater party but I came across them on Etsy and they are so cute! I may or may not be purchasing something. This Etsy shop had some really cute options!

Hopefully, this gave you some fun ideas of some cute holiday sweaters to wear during the holiday season or to an ugly sweater party. I know I’ll be wearing mine!

Fave Beauty Products | October

I haven’t written about beauty products recently but I wanted to share the ones I’ve been using quite a bit lately & why I love them.

Cerave SA Cream for Rough & Bumpy Skin

Image result for cerave rough and bumpy

I’ve talked about this product in my top 10 beauty products post but I’ve been breaking it out a lot more lately now that the weather has gotten colder. Whenever it gets cold, my skin gets drier and I feel like I have goosebumps all over my body that won’t go away. This, of course, isn’t goosebumps but it’s called keratosis pilaris (KP). KP causes small bumps all over your skin that look like goosebumps but just kind of stick around.

Mine is only on my legs but it makes me itch and pick at the bumps. To avoid this, I use this little baby. This makes my skin so smooth and gets rid of my bumps! Two nights ago, my legs itched like crazy and the bumps were all over. I put some of this on and the next morning, the bumps weren’t visible and my legs were hydrated. I LOVE THIS STUFF. You can get it from Target or from Amazon!

ChapStick Total Hydration 3 in 1

My lips are always chapped but in the winter, it gets worse. Also, it doesn’t help that when I’m lost in thought or I’m focusing on something, I will chew on my lips. One thing I really wanted to do was find a good chapstick. I’ve used tons of them, more than you can imagine but this one is my favorite one so far. It’s just pure moisture and I can still feel it on my lips 30 minutes later! It doesn’t just disappear. It’s been great at keeping my lips hydrated because when they’re not, that’s when they peel the most. The sweet peach flavor (scent?) is great as well. I bought it from Target in-store but I have attached the link here.

Batiste Dry Shampoo: Divine Dark

Image result for batiste divine dark

I’m a fan of dry shampoo and I probably will be until someone invents a machine that will wash and style my hair for me in my house while I watch TV. Anyway, I ran out of dry shampoo last month and bought this bottle to try it out. I’ve tried the other Batiste dry shampoos and they were great but I had heard a lot about this one. Let me tell you, it is wonderful! My hair is blonde but my roots are my natural dark brown so this is perfect for me because that’s where all the oil is! It doesn’t leave the white residue and blends in really well. I’m obsessed with it.

One thing I will warn you about is the horror scene that will occur when you shower after using it. I really didn’t put two and two together that it sprays out color (because I’m smart like that) so I had shampooed my hair and was happily rinsing it out when I looked down and saw the brownest water I had ever seen. Had I rolled around in mud and not realized it? Nope, it was just the color from a day of lots of needed dry shampoo. You might want to pick up a clarifying shampoo after using this but personally, I think it’s worth it. Also, I haven’t noticed any color transfer to my clothes or bed from using it so hopefully it’s the same for you. You can get it from Ulta for $8.99!

Artnaturals Purple Shampoo

Artnaturals Purple Shampoo, 16 Ounce

Speaking of the blonde in my hair, I have to keep it nice and toned because I hate when it goes brassy! My friend Ally told me about this shampoo that she got on Amazon and I’ve loved it so much. I’ve tried so many purple shampoos and this one seems to work for me. My shower is filled with purple shampoos that I’ll try and hate and I’ll end up going back to this one. The thing that I’ve noticed with purple shampoos, though, is that everyone is totally different. I’ve had super nice ones recommended that don’t work for me so try it and tell me what you think! If it doesn’t work, let me know what does 🙂 Get it from Amazon here.

Bite Beauty Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Glacé

Image result for bite matte creme lip crayon glace

I got a sample of this lip crayon in my Sephora box and I’ve been so obsessed with it. It’s close to my natural lip color so when I look extra pale and ghosty, I swipe this on and it rejuvenates me. It goes on super smooth and doesn’t leave the buildup of a lipstick. I’ve been meaning to try more colors because they have a ton! I keep this in my purse whenever I need to spruce up my look. Get it from Sephora here.

What are you obsessed with right now??

Desk Decor

Steph and I work at an office building where everyone has cubicles but being the cutesy and organized type-A personalities we are, it’s just another little home to decorate.

I hate having papers everywhere because it will literally distract me from any work I need to do. I’ll be typing away furiously and I’ll catch some loose papers out of the corner of my eye and all my concentration goes out the window. You may be the same kind of person so I decided to show you all my cubicle and where to get all the neat stuff that will help you organize your desk in the cutest way possible.

Even if you don’t work at an office building, these items will look great in a home office as well 🙂

This is my cubicle! This is my home away from home. As you can see, I’ve got a few things to make it cute and comfy.

This tufted chair from Target is my favorite! When people come to visit me at my desk, I like to have a place for them to sit and hang out. A lot of you are probably like, ‘Why would you want your coworkers to hang around your desk? I hate mine’. But I lucked out working at a place where the people are pretty cool. I found this chair in the Target’s furniture clearance section about a year ago so I don’t think they have this exact one but check out their chairs here.

Target has the cutest chairs!

The solid pale pink pillow is from Target as well and is so velvety soft, everyone wants to steal it. The cute ‘hello’ pillow is from my friend Morgan (HI MORGAN!) who moved to Nashville for a rockstar life and left us behind. JK Morgan, love you!

Throw Pillows

Check out Target’s super cute collection of throw pillows here.

My calendar is from Rifle Paper Co. and if you don’t know about them yet, you should. I’m in love with everything Anna Bond does. Every year, I buy their appointment calendar and it’s gorgeous. You can get 2019’s calendar by clicking on the picture below 🙂 They also have smaller versions of their calendars that have maps of the world, inspirational quotes, lemons, and more!

If you haven’t noticed yet, I definitely have a gold/pale pink theme going on. I used to hate pink growing up but I fell in love with the pale pink color and now I’m obsessed.

Having lights around my desk makes me feel happier. It’s the twinkle I feel I deserve. I got these lights from Amazon here for $11. I got some twine and clothespins from my friend Ally who is also super obsessed with desk decor and hung up some Polaroid-sized pictures. I like to print these out from an awesome place called Social Print Studio. You can get 24 of these square prints for $12. They’re such a good size that I printed some out for my room and hung them up there as well. Check them out by clicking their logo below!

The monitor stand (that I don’t use for my monitor) is from Target. I tried to find it online but it doesn’t look like it’s on their website. I’m pretty sure I saw it in store still though!

I bought my pretty scissors from Anthropologie. They are $16 and you can get them on their website by clicking the picture below 🙂Slide View: 1: Rose Scissors

My letterboard is from Felt Like Sharing on Amazon. You can get your own here. They have so many cute colors you can choose from depending on what your color scheme is. I could really go for some cake right now.

My stapler was a gift from my friend Kaylyn and I love it! I’m just a sucker for gold things. I found it at Target and attached the link to the picture below.

I got the drawers from Target as well (Target for the win) and my friend Ally loved it so much that she bought one of her own. You can get it from their website here. It’s a great place to keep things nearby while maintaining the aesthetic.

I also keep an exercise ball (the yellow, spiky thing in the bottom left corner) at my desk for those days that I can’t keep sitting in a desk chair. It also is a great distraction for me during conference calls 🙂

I have a mug and bowl set from Target that I love. I like having it so I’m not buying paper cups or paper bowls. Help out the environment, people.

I just recently bought this agenda from Anthropologie. It comes with a cute gold pen with black ink but I wanted a little more color so I chose a purple pen instead. You can get this planner from their website here.

That cute, hand-drawn picture of me with a large fry above the agenda was made by my friend Emily. She is so talented!! And she accurately captured my love for french fries.

You know how I hate loose papers? I decided to conquer this by getting a letter tray. I bought this little baby from Amazon and you can get yours here.

Pictures really make your area feel homey and remind you of all the people you get to hang out with after work so it’s perfect. That note on the left that looks like a small, pink notebook is from Rifle Paper Co. as well! You can get it for $8 on their website here.

I hope this helped you get started on decorating your office space. It’s so important to make sure that your workspace is somewhere you want to be! Otherwise, you’re going to dread every single moment. (Although let’s be real, most of us dread every single moment of work).

If you have any other ideas for decorating your space or just want to share them with us, comment below! We’d love to see it!

Favorite Switch Games

If you’re wondering where I’ve been, I’m sorry to say that it hasn’t been for a good reason. This semester, my classes have interrupted work twice a week and thrown my entire schedule completely off! I feel like I spend most of my time driving these days.

Anyway, I’ve finally gotten used to my schedule and I’m back in black. Steph has done a great job of keeping up on writing and sharing all of her cool adventures!

One of the things I’ve been really into these days is playing my Nintendo Switch. To be honest, I haven’t had a console of my own since I had my Game Boy Advance. We had a Super Nintendo back in the day (the OG) and we had a Wii. My sister has had a PlayStation 3 and now has an Xbox. That being said, we have mostly used all of those for streaming TV and movies *wah wah*.

When my boyfriend got his Switch, I played around with it a bit and loved it so I decided to get my own! Because I’m not much of a gamer, I thought I’d share what’s kept me entertained. I figure there may be some of you out there who just like to play occasionally but aren’t hardcore gamers.

Super Mario Odyssey

If you’re going to buy a Switch, you really just need to buy this game. I loved it! I’ve always been a big Mario fan ever since I played Super Mario World on Super Nintendo back in the day so I’m always down to play anything with this dark-haired cutie.

The different worlds are entertaining and colorful and so freaking cute. It’s hard to put down because you want to keep playing. It’s a great game to get for your kids that you’d feel comfortable with them playing.

Mario Kart Deluxe 8

Image result for mario kart switch

This is also a no-brainer. This is a great game to play with lots of people. It has a lot of tracks from all the previous versions of Mario Kart on different consoles so it’s fun to get to play those.

Overcooked 2

Image result for overcooked 2

I LOVE GAMES WHERE EVERYTHING IS ADORABLE. This game definitely meets that criteria. I never played the first one but Cody and I got this one to play together and it’s so much fun. I’ve learned a lot about myself playing this game, mainly that I suck at multitasking apparently.

On each level, you learn a recipe and you have to churn out a few meals for the people waiting, otherwise, you lose customers and money! It’s kind of like Diner Dash but kicked up a few notches. My sister and I will also play this and we’ll laugh for a while because of how crazy it gets.

The Inner World

Image result for inner world switch

I was attracted to this game because of how cute the animations were. I’m not going to lie, it was kind of hard for me in the sense that it has continuous puzzles that you have to figure out and I’m not the greatest at it. Luckily, it has a guide that will help you figure out what your next step is if you get stuck.

It’s a pretty clever game, to be honest. I ended up getting the second one after I finished this one but I’ve kind of put that one on the backburner. Robert is the sweetest person and just wants to help everyone out while Laura is super sassy and gets Robert to toughen up a bit.

Image result for celeste switch

I’m kind of cheating on this one a bit because I played it on Cody’s Xbox but it’s available on the Switch and I loved it so here we are. Celeste is just trying to reach the top of the mountain and there’s a bunch of obstacles that get in her way. It’s a little creepy at times but overall, it’s super cute. (I know, there I go using that word again.)

It just has great music and adorable animation and it makes you feel like you’re playing an old-school game because of the way it’s animated.

Little Nightmares

Image result for little nightmares nintendo switch

I’m also going to cheat on this one because I played it on the Xbox but this one was freaky good and it’s available on the Switch. It is one of the scariest games I’ve played, which obviously isn’t much, but I just had to finish it (with a little persuasion from Cody). The creatures are so creepy and you’re seriously just dying to get away from them or not be seen.

I probably wouldn’t recommend getting this for a little kid because of how scary it can get. I don’t doubt they called it Little Nightmares for nothing. But if you don’t mind a little scary game here and there, this one is for you.

Jackbox Games

Image result for jackbox games nintendo switch

If you haven’t heard of Jackbox Games yet, you should. I love playing games with my friends and family and this is a perfect one for that! Each party pack comes with about 5 games and the best part about it is that you only need a phone to play. You log onto their website and there will be a room code on each game that you start where your friends can join on their phones and their phones become their controllers.

We just recently played Monster Seeking Monster from Party Pack 4 and we were dying of laughter. They just have some clever games! Definitely worth getting the different party packs too because there are different games on each of them. I heard Party Pack 5 is coming out soon so it will be cool to see what they have.

If you have any other games I should try that aren’t super difficult or incredibly time-consuming, I’d love to know! I’m always looking for something new to play. Especially if it’s adorable 🙂

You can get your Switch from Amazon for $299!

Cleanin’ Out My Closet

I have too many clothes. I constantly go through and pull out pieces I don’t wear anymore to donate but it’s getting to the point where I really do wear everything I have! To be honest, the only reason it’s a problem for me is that I don’t have enough closet space.

I divided my closet into three sections: top, middle, and bottom. I keep books and baskets on the top shelf, my clothes are hung up in the middle and the bottom is a mess of stuff that I desperately need to organize.

Today, I’m talking about how I cleaned up the middle section. I decided to get new hangers because I was still living in the plastic world and needed to get out of it ASAP. This is what it looked like before:

My clothes were originally organized strictly by color but because of the double sliding doors that my closet has, I would always forget about the clothes behind the door. I also hated the color of the hangers. White isn’t bad but the white hangers didn’t have any hooks for me to hang up skirts and I have a few skirts. I used the teal hangers with hooks to hang up my skirts with safety pins (real ghetto).

I decided to buy some hangers from Amazon that were not plastic and finally matched! They are velvet ivory hangers and while they’re pretty thin, they actually hold a lot of weight! I love the velvet because it keeps each piece in place, especially the tops that would easily slide off of my plastic hangers. You can get these here.

I also bought the matching skirt hangers and it was glorious. They have built-in clips so I no longer have to use safety pins and poke holes in my skirts! You can get these here.

I got to work replacing each hanger with one of these babies and also pulling out clothes that I no longer wanted. It definitely took a while, especially because I ran out of hangers! I had originally ordered 100 regular hangers and realized I was going to need more for sure. A couple of days later, I got some more hangers and finished hanging everything up.

This is the final result! I decided to organize my clothes by type (and then color) and I like it so much more. I’ve read that it’s really good feng shui to have your clothes go from light to heavy (left to right) so I decided to follow that. Skirts are first and I ended with my heavier jackets and coats.

I still have a lot to do with the top and bottom but I’ll keep you updated as I continue organizing 🙂 I will also be showing you guys how to organize your drawers using the Marie Kondo method that I swear by! Stay tuned for that.

What are your favorite ways to keep your closet organized? (Help, I need it)

How to store and organize your makeup

Morning, friends! I thought I would tell everyone how I store and organize my makeup. I am not a makeup guru so I don’t have tons of stuff like I’ve seen some people with but I’ve got the basics. I had a drawer to put my makeup in when we moved and I realized that I didn’t want to just throw everything into it and have stuff floating around unorganized. After unpacking, I realized I had an extra silverware holder because I had bought a bigger one. So I thought, I wonder if this would fit in the drawer and hold my stuff nicely? And it did!

Processed with VSCO with c3 preset

I’ve got my Naked palettes in the back of the drawer, a little section for my blush/bronzer/highlighter, all my lipsticks together, eyeshadows in another section and my tinted moisturizers and mascaras in another. I like it separated out because then I’m not digging through the drawer looking for something. Plus, this looks a lot cleaner.

I store my brushes in a little cup on my two-tiered lazy susan that holds most of my lotions. If I ever get to remodel this bathroom, I have big plans on how I want my bathroom vanity to be with the cabinets for optimal storage. I like not having much stuff on the counters so that would fix that problem but for now, this works great for me.

Processed with VSCO with c3 preset

Processed with VSCO with c3 preset

I got my lazy susan at Target but I found a similar one on Amazon here. Any cutlery tray would work to hold your makeup, but just make sure it’s a size that will fit in your drawer and what your makeup storage needs are.

If you want to put your makeup more on display on the counter, Target has some really cute makeup trays like this depending on how much makeup you have and the prices aren’t bad.

I hope you got some fun ideas on how you stored your makeup. Let me know if you have any ideas for me!

XOXO, Steph

Ways to Relax After a Long Day

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before but I’m an anxious person. My anxiety really started to get more prominent a couple years ago and since then, I’ve been on the hunt to find things that will help me de-stress.

When I switched to my new position earlier this month, I noticed I was SO much less stressed than I had been. I didn’t really realize that my job was mentally straining me. I’ve been doing a lot better now but still need ways to relax more often than not.

I thought I would list some of my favorite things to do to hopefully give you some ideas!

Being Alone

I’m an introvert (even though it may not seem like it) so after a long day at work or spending the entire day with others, I have to recharge by myself. I like not having to talk and being able to hear the thoughts in my head. Many people don’t like this because it almost stresses them out more to have to deal with their own thoughts and that’s okay. Maybe your way of recharging is by being with others! Either way, this is a big one for me and definitely helps me relax.

Image result for being alone

Courtesy of Be Yourself

This is a little hobby that I’ve picked up over the last couple of years. I’ve always had pretty good handwriting and when I was younger, I would switch out my handwriting by practicing different styles of writing certain letters. My handwriting has mostly stayed the same as I’ve gotten older but I’ve improved my cursive tremendously.

I like practicing on my iPad with the Procreate app and my Apple Pencil. I’ll doodle for hours while I watch TV or listen to music.

I love Sex and the City and this is just a little doodle I made while watching.

Watching TV/Movies

I love spending the day in bed watching TV or a good movie (especially one of the rom-coms I talked about in my post). It helps me clear my mind and focus on something else besides what’s going on. Right now, I’m currently binge-watching Home Improvement. I loved this show when I was younger and the entire series is on Hulu! I’m making my family and Cody watch them with me. What are your favorite things to watch when you’re stressed?

Working Out

I’m not going to lie to you guys, this is one that I should do more often because whenever I do, I feel so much better. Cody’s a big runner and I probably will never get to his level but I recognize the benefits of it. I’m slowly but surely getting started. Steph also likes running. She and Adam are doing a triathlon this weekend so I’m sure she’ll share all about that!

Whether it’s just working out at the gym or going on a run, it’s definitely a great way to relieve stress.

Taking a Shower/Bath

Speaking of working out, taking a shower or a long bath right after is the absolute best. I’m not a huge fan of baths because I feel like the water gets cold way too fast. Also, I don’t have a great tub to soak in. However, both are great to relieve stress and a nice, warm shower (or cold after working out) makes me feel like a million bucks.

Retail therapy is a real thing, guys. Whenever my sister and I feel down in the dumps or we need a quick pick-me-up, we go to the mall. I’m also a huge online shopper because I like finding good deals all over the place without necessarily having to go outside. My sister always jokes that our mailman probably hates me because of how many packages I get delivered. Oh well.

Steph and I both love to read. I don’t read as much as I should these days but if it’s a good book, I can’t put it down. One of my favorite books is The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. You can get it from Amazon here. This book changed my life! It’s all about organizing and getting rid of things that don’t bring you joy.

Speaking of organizing, this is my biggest stress-reliever! There is nothing I like more than cleaning and organizing a space. After I read that book, I went through my closet and room and got rid of so much stuff I didn’t need. It was great! As tired as I may be, I love cleaning up my room and finding cute ways to store things. The only thing I’m missing is a great walk-in closet so I don’t have to make room for more clothes…

What are some of your favorite ways to relax after a long day? Let me know below!!

Vacation Packing

I am a little weird and I love to organize things and that includes packing a suitcase. I love laying everything out and finding the best way to put everything in the bag. My sister told me about these packing cubes she wanted to try and with my trip coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to try them out. I was straight up nerding out while packing my bag with these. Best $22.95 I’ve ever spent.

When I start packing, I like to lay out all of my outfits so I can make sure everything matches and I won’t be missing pieces. Depending on the trip, I will bring extra clothes just in case something happens with the weather.

Processed with VSCO with c3 preset

At first, I wasn’t sure how these would save me more space because I felt like I was pretty good at packing before. I just thought it would be nice to have everything more organized. The set came with two large, two medium and one small cube. The large one is the perfect size for a carry-on suitcase and you would still have room for a couple smaller ones. For this trip, my husband and I are checking a bag. I assumed we would need our biggest rolling suitcase for both of us since normally we would each fill a carry on. I was wrong. I started putting everything into the cubes and saw how much space it was saving and moved down to our medium-sized suitcase.

I fit all of my clothes into the large packing cube. I rolled all of my clothes and was able to fit four outfits and two sets of gym clothes in there. I still had some room to spare too! Another trick I will use to save space is if I’m bringing some sort of sneaker, I’ll stuff my socks and underwear into the shoes. I put my running shoes into the smallest cube because then they won’t get my clothes dirty. I wear about a size 7 and I don’t know that a bigger shoe would’ve fit.

My husband laid his clothes all out for me because he knows I get a little bit crazy about packing and it’s better to just let me do it. Because this is a work trip for him, he had more clothes than me. Sure enough, I fit all of his clothes minus a sweatshirt into the other large packing cube. He had one pair of pants, two pairs of shorts, nine shirts, five pairs of boxers and five pairs of socks in his. I just rolled everything up and it all fit in!

I used the two medium-sized cubes to put all of our toiletries in. I didn’t feel like I was having to skimp and leave certain things home. Most of my stuff will still be in smaller bottles though. One trick I have if you’re only using a carry-on and you only have that dreaded quart-sized Ziploc, get the little tiny plastic containers you get when you get a sample of something at Sephora. Let me know if you’re not sure what I’m talking about and I will post a picture.

That is all of our stuff in that medium-sized suitcase. I didn’t even have anything in the top part of the suitcase. I was amazed. I like that our stuff is all separated out too and it will be so easy to unpack. You could pack one day of a whole family’s outfits into one cube and then just grab a cube each day. Then you won’t get a mess of clothes everywhere.

I also like to always add in a couple extra Ziploc’s of varying sizes just in case something leaks. I add in a garbage bag too if I want to put dirty clothes in there to separate them from clean ones on the way home. You could also put dirty clothes in a cube and then clothes that you end up not wearing in another tote to still separate them.

These cubes may be one of my new favorite organizational tricks. It sounds so simple to do it but it made a much bigger difference than I thought it would. Let me know if you try them out or if you come up with any other ideas to use them! Here is the link again for the cubes, they come in fun colors too!
