Weekend Highlights

Welcome back to another Monday. We all dread Mondays but I saw something cool this morning on someone’s Instagram story that I really liked. It made me want to start my Monday over. It said:

Do sharks complain about Monday?

No. They’re up early, biting stuff, chasing shit, being scary – reminding everyone they’re a f****** shark.

I don’t have many pictures of this weekend but it was still a good one. On Friday night, Adam and I went to Market Street Grill with his mom for dinner and then went back to her house to play Liverpool. I like card games like that a lot.

Saturday morning, I spent a lot of time out in the yard mowing it and pulling the weeds I had gotten behind on. That clover stuff is taking over our grass! I sprayed something for it a few weeks ago but it is so much worse now! Adam bought something new to try but we’ll see what it does. Anyone have any suggestions for it??

That night, Adam and I went and saw Crazy Rich Asians and I thought it was so good! I need to read the book now. I had heard it was good but the main reason we went and saw it was because Michelle saw it the night before and told me the next morning that I needed to go see it.

Sunday, I decided to tackle what I like to call our “Junk Room.” It’s that empty room where things go when we have no good spot to put them and I would do my ironing in there too. We bought a new mattress for our basement bedroom so we decided to put the old one in this room and make it a guest room. Below is the before!

I feel like I should have taken more pictures because this doesn’t do it justice and show all of the mess.

I organized the ironing stuff in the closet and the rest of the random things in there and was able to shut the doors so it looks cleaner. Adam unpacked his last two boxes from the move and put everything in his gun cabinet. I’m not sure where that will end up eventually, especially with kids. Now I just need to go find a cute quilt or duvet for the bed and then I will pick sheets out to match. Eventually, we’ll repaint this room and decide if it’s will be a nursery or not but for now, this works great. Hope you like your bedroom, Michelle!

That night, we went up the canyon in Bountiful to Mueller Park and had dinner and a fire. The kids had fun playing down in the creek. I forget how much the temperature changes up there so I froze but I will remember better for next year. It was nice to go up there to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Like Steph said, Friday night, some friends and I went and saw Crazy Rich Asians. It was beautiful. I haven’t cried in a movie in a while but that one made me tear up. I loved it so much! I’m so glad Steph went and saw it too.

On Saturday, my family and I ate breakfast, which was nice because we rarely, if ever, get a chance to do that on Saturdays. That night, I hung out with Cody and some of our friends in Herriman and it was so much fun. You are always laughing with these guys.

Sunday was a pretty chill day, I spent the day with my family and we watched Escaping Polygamy which if you haven’t seen, you should. It’s about the Kingston clan in Utah, a prominent polygamous group who marry young girls to their own family members to “preserve the bloodline”. All of it is so sick but we’ve been a little addicted to the show. We watched an episode Sunday and it sparked this huge conversation between the 4 of us. By the time we realized, it had been like 2 or 3 hours of straight conversation but it was a lot of fun.

Last night, I went over to Cody’s to hang out. We watched Little Giants, one of my favorite movies from when I was younger. He fried up some potstickers from Costco that were freaking delicious and also decided to put a raw egg in his ramen that he was going to cook in the microwave and that was a bad idea because it exploded. It was pretty funny.

All in all, it was a pretty fun weekend.

What did you do this weekend?

7 Ways to Be a Happier You!

There’s a ton of negativity around us right now. You can’t get on Facebook without seeing negative thoughts and comments. Personally, I hate Facebook. If it weren’t for keeping in touch with family, I wouldn’t have one. I think it’s extremely hypocritical of adults to chastise younger generations about how they’re always on their phones and rant about how social media runs our lives when adults are constantly on Facebook, getting in fights with others in the comments section and bullying each other based on beliefs.

This is why I came up with 7 ways that help me be happier in hopes that it helps you as well.

1. Laugh

I’m notorious for thinking the most random things in this life are hilarious. I know there are always incredibly frustrating situations in life but find the funny parts of your situation and laugh it off! You’re going to think back on this moment in a week, a month, or even a year and wonder why you spent so much time moping around about it.

I love using the Snapchat filters with my friends, especially Camille

2. Find joy in the little things

I’ve talked a little bit before about how anxious of a person I am so it’s important for me to find things that make me happy because it takes my mind off of things and relaxes me. The thing is, shopping makes me extremely happy but if I did it all the time, I’d be broke. So naturally, you have to find other things. For example:

I love the smell of wet concrete, especially after a rainstorm in the summer

I love the smell of fresh cut grass and the morning air

I love walking into a cool house after being outside in the heat

I love curling up in bed with a book or watching a movie when there’s a thunderstorm outside

I love when everything makes me giggle and I can’t stop laughing

I love waking up on my own instead of with an alarm clock

Make a list of all your favorite things that make you happy! Acknowledging these things will bring you joy even if there isn’t a thunderstorm outside right now that you can enjoy.

3. Don’t stress about things outside of your control

This is such a major one for me because there’s a lot of people in my life that stress so much about things that they literally couldn’t change even if they wanted to. Why get angry or bothered about this stuff? For example, the weather. People that are completely upset because it’s scorching hot outside… Get over it! Unless you’ve figured out a way to change the weather with a machine that you should so kindly share with mankind, it is absolutely & completely out of your control.

If I can’t personally do anything to fix it, there’s no point in obsessing over it.

4. Be the bigger person

This really shouldn’t be something that needs to be defined but certain people seem to have a problem grasping this concept. Grudges, drama, hatred, revenge… all of this breeds ignorance. You can’t say that you’re maturing as a person and still be participating in these things. In 50 years, I don’t want to look back on my life & only remember all the people that hurt my feelings or that I disliked. I want to remember all the fun things I did with the people I loved. That brings me to #5…

5. Don’t spend time with people you don’t like

In 2013, I lost one of my really great friends. It was devastating because it was the first loss I had ever experienced and we were all so young. One of the things I realized when that happened was that I wanted to spend more time with those I loved, and less time with those I didn’t. I realize that there are times where you can’t avoid this but when it’s under your control, you should spend time with the important people that support you and are positive beings in your life. I think one thing you learn as you get older is who is really around because they want to be & not because they need something from you.

6. Treat yourself regularly

There are months where there are so many bills to pay or unexpected expenses come up that you’re so stressed out & just feel overwhelmed. Whenever this happens, I like to plan out a little treat for the next month or next paycheck to make myself feel better. You don’t have to spend a lot of money & sometimes, the things that make you feel better don’t require any money. Maybe taking a sick day & spending a day at home on the couch is your treat or maybe finally getting to take a long bath & read a good book is your treat. Whatever it is, don’t forget that you deserve a little break too.

7. Don’t see happiness as a destination

This is the one that gets me every time. “If    this    would just happen, I’d finally be happy.” How many times have you actually gotten what you wished for and still felt like something was missing? As much I as get caught up in what’s not happening in my life, the best times are when I forget all about it and focus on what’s happening at the moment. It’s so much easier to enjoy the ‘now’ when you’re not obsessed about the ‘later’. This is much easier said than done but I like to consciously make an effort to be grateful for the things I do have and that helps me cut out the future wishing.

Weekend Highlights

Michelle and I had such a fun and busy weekend. We’ll each talk about what we did on our own down below but first, we want to tell you about the Shania Twain concert we went to with some friends on Saturday night. It was so much fun! Concerts never seem to be long enough and I could’ve stayed all night listening to her songs. Shania is so pretty and I swear she hasn’t aged and sounds so good live.

We had so so much fun! We almost forgot how many hits Shania had (I’m not sure how because the woman is brilliant). We were missing our friend Ally, who got super sick the day of and couldn’t make it. We were so bummed out she couldn’t come.

Friday night I spent relaxing and trying to feel better from having a nasty cold all week. I think Friday was my worst day of it. I did have to get up for a little bit to bake the cakes for the birthday party I had the next day. I tried to make one of them earlier in the week but it was a fail. That’s a post for another day though.

Saturday, I woke up feeling a million times better. Thank you to cold meds and to humidifiers. I had to hurry and frost the cakes and then take them over to a birthday party at the pool for my nieces and nephew. Both cakes had buttercream frosting and I didn’t even think about it when I made them that it’s really hot outside and buttercream will kind of melt in the heat. So we had to eat the cakes pretty quickly after we got there.

We sat my nephew down in front of his cake and he stuck his hand right into it. Then he didn’t know what to do and wanted the frosting off his hand. It was pretty funny.

My little niece loved her cake and she was so excited to turn three. They would barely sit long enough for us to sing before they wanted to get back in the pool.

After we played in the pool for a while, I went home and showered real fast and then got ready to go to the Shania Twain concert.

Sunday was spent recovering from the concert and cleaning my house back up. Things got let go with getting the cold this week and I needed to feel organized again.

On Friday night, my friends and I went to Wendover to get our gambling on and it was so much fun! We took the fun bus down there with 11 of us and we had a blast. I didn’t get any pictures that night because I was too busy winning money! I made $80 alone at a blackjack table and was so proud of myself considering I had only learned how to play the day before. The bus leaves super late though so we didn’t get home until about 4 AM.

On Saturday, my sister and I slept in all morning, hung out around the house and then got ready for the concert.

Sunday was pretty eventful for my family. My mom accidentally slipped down the stairs when she was on the last three steps and she broke a couple of her toes! It was so sad. We took her to the hospital to get her foot x-rayed because at first, we thought it was just a sprain. While we were waiting for the doctor to come back to the room, we decided to play a few rounds of blackjack and that was fun.

My cute mom bummed out because of her new boot!

After the hospital, we were all starving so we went to Olive Garden and then hung out at my house when my aunt & cousins came over.

We were all grateful it wasn’t worse but definitely happy the day was over!

What did you guys do this weekend?

Annette’s 27th

Yesterday was my sister’s birthday! She turned 27 and while she’s kind of upset about that part, she doesn’t look a day over 18. A couple days ago, Steph and I took her to a super cute nail salon in Salt Lake called Nailed! They have the cutest setup and are appointment only, which is so nice because I feel like other nail salons will take appointments and walk-ins so when you get there for your appointment, they’re sitting with a walk-in and you have to wait. What’s the point of an appointment then?

Anyway, look how cute their area for pedicures is! They had the nicest staff and our gel manicures looked great. This is honestly the best nail salon experience we’ve ever had.

Annette is on the right, I’m in the middle and Steph is to the right

Annette is the sweetest sister you could have. She is fiercely protective of those she loves and would do anything for them. We are always laughing about something and we love doing stuff together. I’m so glad that I grew up close to her because she’s one of my best friends. I wouldn’t trade her for the world. Thanks for all your support, Annettey! Love you! xoxo

Cute Morgan is in the middle in that striped dress. My sister is on the left of her and I’m on the right.

My weekend was a little busy! Friday, around lunchtime, my team and I at work went to Chili’s to say goodbye to one of the girls we work with. Morgan is moving to Nashville with her husband so he can pursue his career playing drums! I’m so excited for them and selfishly super excited that I have a reason to visit Nashville now! Morgan, I know you’ll read this so I love you & I wish you two all the best!

Friday night, we celebrated my friend Misty’s birthday at Buca di Beppo. We had a blast laughing and talking about work shenanigans and our normal crazy conversations. These girls are great!

Dave & Buster’s has this VR Jurassic Park game but I can’t tell you how it was since my video turned white the whole time. I couldn’t see a thing.

Saturday morning, my sister and I had to take our Cognitive Psychology final so we had to get up super early for that. Then we came home and napped for a few hours (score!). That night, Cody and I went to dinner at Market Street Grill and we decided to hit up Dave & Buster’s for some arcade games! By the way, Space Invaders is the greatest game and your girl here has won the 500 ticket bonus TWICE. Just saying.

Sunday was spent with the family doing absolutely nothing but playing video games and watching movies so it was a great day!

I got back from my trip to Minnesota on Saturday and I will make sure to do a post about it this week. It was a fun trip but I’m glad to be back home. I spent Sunday getting organized again and ready for the new week.

I had forgotten that I made plans with my friend Alicia for breakfast but luckily she texted me early that morning and reminded me. We met up in downtown Salt Lake at this cute little place called Rye. I just got a simple egg, potato, and bacon breakfast but it was really good! I love my eggs over medium but I get nervous ordering them at restaurants because a lot of the time they end up overcooked. They were perfectly cooked though when they brought out my food! Definitely a place I will try again. Just be careful because it’s easy to miss from the street.

I had big plans to go on a scenic bike ride but I got sidetracked by Grey’s Anatomy. Don’t ask me how many times I’ve watched it but it never gets old. So I apologize but I have no pictures from Sunday because the rest of the day was spent doing laundry, yard work, and grocery shopping. I did stop by Costco because I heard about SexyModest Boutique on Instagram and started following them. They have some really cute and comfy looking dresses. I saw they were going to be at the Bountiful Costco for a few days so I made sure to run over there and grab a couple. I’ll make sure to post a picture when I wear them this week!

Sister, Sister

This is Romina & her cute family. She is one of my sweetest friends ever. She is so kind and nice and has eyes like Mila Kunis (I tell her all the time). In fact, the first time I ever met Romina was when she was working at a great restaurant in Utah called Village Baker and she took my order. I thought to myself, you’re gorgeous! Let me be your friend!

As fate would have it, she would end up working in healthcare with me and going to Utah Valley University as well so we got to be closer. The universe wanted us to be friends!

She just had her first child, an adorable little boy named Leo. Anyway, she’s getting back into the photography game and asked my sister and I if she could take some shots for her portfolio. My sister Annette and I always jump at the chance to get pics taken so of course, we said yes.

Here are some of our favorites! (Also, isn’t my sister so cute?)

If you want to scope her out and hire her (YOU SHOULD), check out her Instagram or her website! She’s fantastic.
