Happy Halloween!

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! I hate when it falls during the week because then you have to wake up and go to work the next morning. Nevertheless, it’s always a great day full of cute costumes and fun times.

I wanted to share a few of my favorite costumes from the past and my costumes from this year!

This year, I was Jessie from Toy Story 2 and it’s still one of my favorite costumes to this day! Next to me is my ‘deer’ friend, Paige, looking cute as usual!Processed with VSCO with c3 presetThat same year, my friend Alex (middle) dressed up as the Joker and did an amazing job! My friend Sam (right) dressed up as a creepy zombie. Her makeup was on point!

This is my sister and I as Tina and Louise Belcher from Bob’s Burgers. We love this show and this one was so fun to do! Annette looks awesome as Tina!

I was an ’80s girl last year and this was probably another favorite costume. I got to wave my hair and walk around in leggings. Super comfy.

This year, my sister and I dressed up as Arthur and D.W. This was a childhood staple for us growing up so we were so excited to put it together!!Processed with VSCO with h4 presetSteph came to work with her cute unicorn. It’s so funny watching her walk around with it. It also makes you want to wear it really really bad.

Last but not least, Cody & I were Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson. We started planning this costume at the beginning of the month so we already had all our pieces when we found out they broke up. Cody even went as far as bleaching his hair to match Pete’s. It was hilarious. I think it turned out pretty freaking good. Too bad my heel broke 20 minutes after I took this picture!

What were you for Halloween??

Spooky Shows

I love Halloween. This month, I’ve had the greatest time watching scary movies and shows to stay in the mood. I’ve never understood why people hate celebrating Halloween. I love the excitement of choosing your costume and watching all the creepiest things. I like watching scary movies year round but especially in October!

I thought I’d compile a list of my favorite creepy shows & movies that you should watch these next two days to maintain the mood 🙂

The Haunting of Hill House

If you haven’t watched this show on Netflix yet, you’re missing out BIG TIME. If you haven’t heard about it at all, you must be living under a rock. This is based on the book of the same name by Shirley Jackson (which on my wish list for Christmas this year). The characters are all amazing and it is legitimately creepy. The storyline is fantastic. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Castle Rock

Castle Rock was amazing. It was like a mixture of all your favorite Stephen King movies plus some really twisted stuff. All of it is available on Hulu now for your convenience. You also have to pay a lot of attention because it can get very confusing!

This movie was freaking insane. I thought it was super scary and disturbing but then other people have told me that it was dumb. I’m not sure what to tell you about this besides the fact that it creeped me out. Plus, it was also scary when I realized it was filmed in Utah and I recognized some of the places in it. I didn’t like that one bit.

This movie came out on Netflix last year but if you haven’t seen it and you like scary movies, you should. It’s filmed in Spain so there are English subtitles but that doesn’t stop it from freaking you out. I was scared while watching it the first time but then I liked it so much, I watched it with my friends and family again.

The Babadook

I watched this movie while folding laundry so I can promise it’s not the scariest one out there. There are some jumpy parts to it and the sound of the Babadook is not the friendliest. Definitely worth watching though!

The Visit

People are going to think I’m so dumb for mentioning this one but I’m pretty sure I screamed out loud at one point. It was just disturbing and now I don’t trust anyone’s grandparents!! Also, their take on sundowning is the creepiest thing in the entire world.

The Fourth Kind

I watched this when I was younger and it completely scarred me for life. I remember having to turn on SpongeBob after watching it. Whenever that happens as a child, I will try to rewatch the movie as an adult to get over that fear. It usually works out pretty well and I realize that it was all irrational. However, this is one movie I still haven’t been able to finish as an adult. I got really courageous a couple months ago and I tried watching it with Cody and we didn’t finish it. It’s freaky! IT’S ALIENS, OKAY?

Get Out

If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I’m very upset with you and you’re far behind. Don’t watch anything else until you watch this one first. It’s pretty awesome. I didn’t see any of it coming.

The Strangers

Okay, I lied. This one is also a terrifying movie that I still haven’t brought myself to watch 10 years later. It freaked me out so bad because it was based on a true story! AGH.

This only applies to the first one but it is scary. I still think about the red devil guy sometimes and I have to watch something happy instead to take my mind off of it. I think it’s very well made and it’ll getcha.

The Classics

You can’t let October go by without watching a classic Halloween movie. That’s just ridiculous. Plus, they’re not even that scary! Here are my favorite originals that are always worth a watch:

The Silence of the Lambs
The Exorcist
The Omen
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Shining
The Sixth Sense
The Fly
Rosemary’s Baby
The Ring
The Grudge
The Blair Witch Project
Pet Sematary

Anyway, go watch these and thank me later when you can’t sleep.

Happy haunting!

Murder Mystery Parties

One of my absolute favorite things about October is a good murder mystery party! We’ve done a couple throughout the years and we have such a blast every single time. They’re fun to plan and set up and it’s great seeing everyone come fully dressed in costume and in character.

For the last two we threw, we used Night of Mystery downloadable kits and we thought they were great! The first one was called Murder at the Juice Joint and you can get this one here. We threw this party at my friend Paige’s house and we had so much fun.

Paige’s dad is a major car guy and he happened to have cars that looked like they were from this era so he let us take pictures in his garage as well 🙂

We all loved dressing up as flappers and mafia men. This is definitely one I’d love to do again!

The second one we threw was called Totally Rad 80s Prom Gone Bad and this one was also so great! You can get this one here. Everyone came decked out in 80s prom dresses and big hair. We threw this one at my friend Hillary’s house and they made a separate area for pictures that turned out pretty great.

We had some great times and none of us could stop laughing. These murder mystery parties are perfect for spending a night with your favorite people. You will not regret it!

If you throw a murder mystery party, let us know! We’d love to see your pictures!

Fall Traditions

I love when fall starts because it means the start of the holidays. I love the smells, the weather, the decorations, the food and all of the activities. I’ve already started taking advantage of some activities and have others planned. If you’re local in Utah, I will link up some of my ideas.

Last weekend, Michelle and I went up to Snowbird Ski Resort to Oktoberfest with some friends and we had a great time. Adam and I have gone for a few years now and I love it because it’s cooler up there than down in the valley so it always feels a little more like fall and it is so beautiful up there. It’s fun to just walk around and look at the booths and they always have good food too. Every time I walked past the booth this year that had the desserts, I was dying over the smell. I wanted EVERYTHING!

They also have fun activities for kids there and you can ride the tram up the mountain if you want, too. Definitely something we do every year.

Adam and I have plans to watch Hocus Pocus one weekend this month too. I am such a wimp about anything remotely scary so that’s about as far as I go with Halloween movies. Michelle likes them so I bet she will do a post about her favorites. But once Thanksgiving is over, I will be all about those Christmas movies and the Hallmark Channel.

Since Adam and I started dating, we’ve always carved pumpkins with friends or family.

We look like little babies! This was our first Halloween 6 years ago when I still lived in Logan for school. I think it might even be our first picture together.

This year, we’ve planned a night with some of my family to have dinner and carve pumpkins at our house. It’s funny how life changes because now there are nieces and nephews that come and it’s fun seeing them try and carve pumpkins with their parents. Then, of course, we put the pumpkins on the porch with a candle inside. I’ll be sure to take a picture this year!

My sister, Jen, told me about this company called Crust Club that will deliver the dinner or dessert to your house and you just pop it in the oven. We’re going to try out the chicken pot pie when we have our pumpkin night. It looked pretty good and I thought it was reasonably priced.

I think other fun activities could be going on a hay bale ride, going to a pumpkin patch or if you’re into the scary stuff you could go to a haunted house. Michelle asked me if I would be open to trying out all of the haunted houses in Utah and then writing about it and I was like, that is a hard no for me! I get scared so easily.

I’ve decided that next year, I’m going to plant different pumpkins in my yard so that I can use them as decorations next year and I am pretty excited about it. I just hope it works. I am not the best at keeping plants alive. I currently have a succulent in my kitchen window that is slowly dying and I thought those were supposed to be pretty hard to kill.

What are your fall traditions? I’m always looking for new ideas of fun things to do!

xoxo, Steph
