Weekend Highlights

It’s almost Christmas and I can’t wait! Just one more weekend! I better hurry and finish getting my last few gifts this week. I only have one picture from this weekend. Sorry, I know I need to be better but I can tell you what I did.

Saturday, I went to a cookie exchange party for one of my friends from work. I wasn’t able to stay the whole time but she does it annually and you get to walk away with a yummy variety of cookies. I ran some errands on the way home and then I attempted to watch Home Alone with Adam but I fell asleep pretty quickly. I realized I am behind on watching Christmas movies this year and I brought my stack out to try and watch them between now and Christmas. I’ll have to try again with Home Alone.

When I woke up, Adam took me to dinner and then we had to run to Lowe’s and check out our possible next house project. I’ll keep you updated on what we decide.

First thing Sunday morning, we went grocery shopping because I wanted to buy everything we could need until after Christmas to hopefully avoid the business. I already realized I forgot the supplies for the treat Adam gets every Christmas morning he works so I’ll be going back. As soon as I got home, I started making banana bread.

Last year, I wanted to do banana bread for my neighbor gifts but had a hard time getting the bread to cook all the way through and not be dry. Well, I finally have a recipe that I am successful at. Here is the recipe! It’s from A Bountiful Kitchen and it’s so easy. My bread always takes quite a bit longer than she says to cook and I’ve learned that the toothpick method of checking to see if it’s cooked does not work for me. I put a thermometer in the bread and cook it until it’s about 190 degrees. Halfway through cooking, I put tin foil on top as well so the top doesn’t get too crispy.

Here is my finished product!

I actually still need to make a couple more loaves but I ran out of ripe bananas so I should be able to finish this week. Adam is going to deliver these to our neighbors tomorrow while I’m at work. I bought the cellophane from Home Goods about a month ago and the ribbon I stocked up on months ago at Michael’s when it was on clearance. Of course, I ran out of it. Always buy more than you think you need!

After I was done baking, Adam and I went and saw the new Grinch. Have you seen it? What did you think? I was torn because I thought it was cute but I love the Jim Carrey Grinch and his personality.

What did you do this weekend??

Xoxo, Steph

Weekend Highlights

I had a super fun weekend with new friends and old friends. On Saturday, we had a dinner & movie night with my friends. It took us probably 35 minutes to pick something to watch because we’re all so stubborn that any time someone suggested something, someone else would hate it. I can never stop laughing with these guys.

One of my favorite things about Christmas in Utah is when the lights at Temple Square turn on after Thanksgiving. It always feels like the official start of Christmas. I love looking at them but I will admit, I’m a baby when it comes to the cold so I don’t go every year.

This year was fun because Cody’s mission companion from Brazil and his wife, Matt and Lorena, came to visit and spent the weekend at his place. We took them to do a few of our favorite things including eating at Maxwell’s, doing an escape room, going to Gourmandise for dessert, getting fries (or frites) from Bruges, and going to Temple Square to see the lights.

Maxwell’s in Salt Lake is a great restaurant and bar that has some really good (and HUGE) pizzas!

We did an escape room at The Escape Key in Salt Lake and it was a lot of fun. This is my third time doing an escape room and I’ve escaped every single time. We made it out with about 12 or 13 minutes left. This one was a little hard because the whole room was dark the entire time and we only had flashlights and eventually, small black lights.

This is one of my favorite places in the entire world. My dad found this place when I was younger and we’ve all been obsessed ever since. I’ve had birthday dinners with friends here so it holds lots of good times and memories for me. We brought Matt and Lorena here because Lorena was really craving some dessert and this is the first place I think of when I want dessert.

My favorite treats are the chocolate mousse slice, the chocolate strawberry tartelettes, and the raspberry mango tartelettes. There is lots of good stuff here to choose from!

Lorena was also craving fries (a girl after my own heart) so we took them to Bruges and got a huge serving of fries and sauces. It was delicious!!

Lorena and Matt invited Cody and I to the Christmas Devotional at the Conference Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints so we walked through Temple Square on our way to the Conference Center and took some pictures!

I had a blast getting to know these Brazilians living in New Zealand (still insanely jealous about this)! I love making new friends 🙂

Weekend Highlights

It may be Tuesday but I’m already wishing it was the weekend! I wanted to share with you some of the fun things I did this weekend though.

On Friday, Cody took me to Frightmares at Lagoon (an amusement park in Farmington, Utah) and we had a blast. Lagoon is a great place to spend your summer days & nights riding rides and hanging out but in October, they transform the park into a “scary” vibe and set up haunted houses and other scary attractions. There were tons of people waiting in line for the haunted houses so Cody bought us fast passes to get into them and it was so worth it!

On Saturday, our friend Brittney got married to her fiancĂ© Dallon and we went to her super cute reception. She looked gorgeous, like Wedding Day Barbie or something! She had a Leatherby’s (a Utah ice cream shop) cart set up so they were dishing out some delicious ice cream. It was a beautiful venue in Pleasant Grove called Stone Gate Weddings & Events and it was perfect for her.

On Sunday, I spent the day with my family and then hung out with Cody and our friends & watched some Sunday Night Football and I, Tonya. Margot Robbie killed it as Tonya Harding in that movie. Actually, I have to say that the entire cast killed it. It was crazy good.

I hope you guys had a great weekend!

xoxo Michelle

Weekend Highlights

Welcome back to another Monday. We all dread Mondays but I saw something cool this morning on someone’s Instagram story that I really liked. It made me want to start my Monday over. It said:

Do sharks complain about Monday?

No. They’re up early, biting stuff, chasing shit, being scary – reminding everyone they’re a f****** shark.

I don’t have many pictures of this weekend but it was still a good one. On Friday night, Adam and I went to Market Street Grill with his mom for dinner and then went back to her house to play Liverpool. I like card games like that a lot.

Saturday morning, I spent a lot of time out in the yard mowing it and pulling the weeds I had gotten behind on. That clover stuff is taking over our grass! I sprayed something for it a few weeks ago but it is so much worse now! Adam bought something new to try but we’ll see what it does. Anyone have any suggestions for it??

That night, Adam and I went and saw Crazy Rich Asians and I thought it was so good! I need to read the book now. I had heard it was good but the main reason we went and saw it was because Michelle saw it the night before and told me the next morning that I needed to go see it.

Sunday, I decided to tackle what I like to call our “Junk Room.” It’s that empty room where things go when we have no good spot to put them and I would do my ironing in there too. We bought a new mattress for our basement bedroom so we decided to put the old one in this room and make it a guest room. Below is the before!

I feel like I should have taken more pictures because this doesn’t do it justice and show all of the mess.

I organized the ironing stuff in the closet and the rest of the random things in there and was able to shut the doors so it looks cleaner. Adam unpacked his last two boxes from the move and put everything in his gun cabinet. I’m not sure where that will end up eventually, especially with kids. Now I just need to go find a cute quilt or duvet for the bed and then I will pick sheets out to match. Eventually, we’ll repaint this room and decide if it’s will be a nursery or not but for now, this works great. Hope you like your bedroom, Michelle!

That night, we went up the canyon in Bountiful to Mueller Park and had dinner and a fire. The kids had fun playing down in the creek. I forget how much the temperature changes up there so I froze but I will remember better for next year. It was nice to go up there to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Like Steph said, Friday night, some friends and I went and saw Crazy Rich Asians. It was beautiful. I haven’t cried in a movie in a while but that one made me tear up. I loved it so much! I’m so glad Steph went and saw it too.

On Saturday, my family and I ate breakfast, which was nice because we rarely, if ever, get a chance to do that on Saturdays. That night, I hung out with Cody and some of our friends in Herriman and it was so much fun. You are always laughing with these guys.

Sunday was a pretty chill day, I spent the day with my family and we watched Escaping Polygamy which if you haven’t seen, you should. It’s about the Kingston clan in Utah, a prominent polygamous group who marry young girls to their own family members to “preserve the bloodline”. All of it is so sick but we’ve been a little addicted to the show. We watched an episode Sunday and it sparked this huge conversation between the 4 of us. By the time we realized, it had been like 2 or 3 hours of straight conversation but it was a lot of fun.

Last night, I went over to Cody’s to hang out. We watched Little Giants, one of my favorite movies from when I was younger. He fried up some potstickers from Costco that were freaking delicious and also decided to put a raw egg in his ramen that he was going to cook in the microwave and that was a bad idea because it exploded. It was pretty funny.

All in all, it was a pretty fun weekend.

Weekend Highlights

Michelle and I had such a fun and busy weekend. We’ll each talk about what we did on our own down below but first, we want to tell you about the Shania Twain concert we went to with some friends on Saturday night. It was so much fun! Concerts never seem to be long enough and I could’ve stayed all night listening to her songs. Shania is so pretty and I swear she hasn’t aged and sounds so good live.

We had so so much fun! We almost forgot how many hits Shania had (I’m not sure how because the woman is brilliant). We were missing our friend Ally, who got super sick the day of and couldn’t make it. We were so bummed out she couldn’t come.

Friday night I spent relaxing and trying to feel better from having a nasty cold all week. I think Friday was my worst day of it. I did have to get up for a little bit to bake the cakes for the birthday party I had the next day. I tried to make one of them earlier in the week but it was a fail. That’s a post for another day though.

Saturday, I woke up feeling a million times better. Thank you to cold meds and to humidifiers. I had to hurry and frost the cakes and then take them over to a birthday party at the pool for my nieces and nephew. Both cakes had buttercream frosting and I didn’t even think about it when I made them that it’s really hot outside and buttercream will kind of melt in the heat. So we had to eat the cakes pretty quickly after we got there.

We sat my nephew down in front of his cake and he stuck his hand right into it. Then he didn’t know what to do and wanted the frosting off his hand. It was pretty funny.

My little niece loved her cake and she was so excited to turn three. They would barely sit long enough for us to sing before they wanted to get back in the pool.

After we played in the pool for a while, I went home and showered real fast and then got ready to go to the Shania Twain concert.

Sunday was spent recovering from the concert and cleaning my house back up. Things got let go with getting the cold this week and I needed to feel organized again.

On Friday night, my friends and I went to Wendover to get our gambling on and it was so much fun! We took the fun bus down there with 11 of us and we had a blast. I didn’t get any pictures that night because I was too busy winning money! I made $80 alone at a blackjack table and was so proud of myself considering I had only learned how to play the day before. The bus leaves super late though so we didn’t get home until about 4 AM.

On Saturday, my sister and I slept in all morning, hung out around the house and then got ready for the concert.

Sunday was pretty eventful for my family. My mom accidentally slipped down the stairs when she was on the last three steps and she broke a couple of her toes! It was so sad. We took her to the hospital to get her foot x-rayed because at first, we thought it was just a sprain. While we were waiting for the doctor to come back to the room, we decided to play a few rounds of blackjack and that was fun.

My cute mom bummed out because of her new boot!

After the hospital, we were all starving so we went to Olive Garden and then hung out at my house when my aunt & cousins came over.

We were all grateful it wasn’t worse but definitely happy the day was over!

Weekend Highlights

Happy Monday! We wanted to share our weekend highlights with you. What was your weekend like?

Adam and I went on a little motorcycle ride on Friday night. It was perfect because it was starting to cool down so we weren’t too hot on the bike. I love going on these summertime rides. Going on the freeways scare me a little but Adam is really good at watching out for other cars in case they aren’t paying attention.

I stayed up late that night finishing up my first attempt at a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream from Cake by Courtney. The picture may make it look crooked but it’s not. I’ll do another post about it later after I’ve made it again. I definitely need some practice so don’t judge my skills too hard! I’m baking my niece and nephew’s cake for their birthday so this was a run-through. Baking cakes may be my new hobby, it was pretty fun.

4BDF01BD-2907-4E57-AAEB-362B7AC80924.jpgSaturday morning was spent doing yard work. I have to wake up early before it’s too hot otherwise you won’t catch me working outside.  Heat is not my friend unless it’s by the pool.

That afternoon, we went on a ride in the Teryx. We are lucky enough to be storing my in-laws’ Teryx for them and lucky enough that we just have to go up the street from our house and we are on a dirt trail. I have Adam drive the whole time because I like to go faster but I know if I drive, I will be too much of a chicken and be afraid of crashing.

Sunday was spent cleaning up my house to prepare to go out of town this week. Adam has a work conference this week in Minnesota and I get to tag along! I went last year so I’m excited to go back again. I’ll make sure and do a post about it when I get back.

This weekend was busy but so fun!

On Saturday, my friends and I volunteered at the Care Fair hosted by the Junior League of Salt Lake. The Care Fair is an annual event where they provide all kinds of medical care to those that are uninsured or can’t afford medical services. We volunteered as interpreters since we all speak Spanish. This is my second time volunteering with them and it’s honestly so rewarding to use your Spanish for something as important as this. They are always so grateful for your help.

We’re all really excited because we’re planning on joining the Junior League this year so we can keep helping out and volunteer with them. There are Junior Leagues all over the country and it’s a women’s only group so if you want to help out in your community, check out their website here. They’re an amazing organization!

On Sunday, my mom, sister and I went to the Phantom of the Opera musical at the Eccles Theater in Salt Lake. First off, gorgeous building! It was the first time we had gone since it was built and it’s absolutely beautiful. Phantom is my sister’s favorite musical ever so it was fun to get to see it live. They did such a great job! It made me want to keep watching musicals.

I’m on the left, my mom in the middle, and my sister on the right. Aren’t they the cutest human beings ever? We had so much fun. Then Sunday night, my boyfriend came home from being in Vegas all weekend so we stayed in and watched a movie together.
